　　这是一个属于成人童话，属于曾经有过童心成年人童话，孩子们是无法体会小王子彻骨忧伤和爱沉重。他们也不应该过早地体会这些，他们应该在阳光明媚世界里享受着快乐时光。这与其说是一个童话，不如说是一个悲剧。童话里主人公总是像白雪公主或灰姑娘一样，幸福美满地生活。而忧伤小王子却在发见爱真谛后死在沙漠里。

　　小说情节很简单，主要是从“我”角度讲述小王子游历过程。因为一朵美丽而娇气玫瑰，小王子离开了一直平静地生活着B-612小游星，他先后游历了六个星球，在这些星球上，他遇到一些他觉得很不可理逾大人，狂妄自大国王，财迷心窍商人、迂腐点灯人……于是他不断感慨，“大人世界确实奇怪。”在这里作者以小王子孩子式眼光，透视出这些大人们空虚、盲目和愚妄，也道出了成人孤独寂寞、无可适从处境。

　　最后他来到了地球。在这里他遇到了一只狐狸，这只狐狸给他解决了那朵娇气小玫瑰给他带来对爱疑惑，使他明白，爱意味着责任，意味着慈悲，有了爱(广义爱)生活里一切才有了意义。狐狸告诉他：“对于你使之驯顺东西，你永远有责任。你要对你玫瑰尽责。”“如果你使我驯顺了，我生活就会充满阳光，欢快起来。我将会听出一种与众不同脚步声。…….你有着一头金发，于是，一旦你使我驯顺了，这将变得妙不可言!金色小麦将使我回想起你来。于是我就会爱上穿行麦浪风声……”爱使人懂得了忧伤和痛苦，同时使人摆脱了孤独寂寞，使生活变得有充满情趣和意义。正象小王子对“我”说：“这就象花一样。如果你爱上了一朵生长在一颗星星上花，那么夜间，你看着天空就感到甜蜜愉快，所有星星上都好象开着花。”于是作者明白，这世界上，一只小绵羊吃掉一朵花儿，是没什么大不了事，但对于小王子来说，“那就如同所有星星顷刻间都熄灭。”

　　最后，小王子在离开他星球一周年之际，让毒蛇咬死了他，这样他可以“摆脱躯体重量”，回到他B-612小游星，回到他骄傲而脆弱玫瑰身边。小王子走了，就象买火柴小姑娘飞向与奶奶在一起没有寒冷没有饥饿世界一样，他奔向他永恒爱。留给这世界只是金色麦田和一园子无关紧要玫瑰花。还有我们在徒劳地哭泣。而我们就象渴望被驯顺狐狸一样，对着麦田思念着小王子金色头发。因为小王子，我相信沙漠里确实藏着水井，因为小王子他听到辘轳在风中声音，并饮了那令荒漠变得美丽甘泉。
